Study: Early intervention can help curb symptoms of autism in children

By Staff Writer

Research from the University of Texas shows that early play therapy can help alleviate common conditions that affect children who are diagnosed with autism, reports KHOU.

Researchers told the news source that this type of therapy revolves around early intervention and how to decrease the severity of the disorder. Children who are diagnosed with autism often exhibit communication challenges, significant speech delays and abnormal behaviors.

Officials warned that to take full advantage of this program, children need to be enrolled within their first year. However, most children are not diagnosed with the condition until age three. They added that parents should watch for the signs of autism.

Therapeutic boarding schools can help children who suffer from the symptoms of autism by providing recreational activities designed to enable them to achieve behavioral success.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 1 in 110 children in the U.S. are eventually diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
