Parents try their luck in identifying drug paraphernalia at one Pennsylvania school event
By Staff Writer
Many experts say that adults are the front line soldiers in preventing drug abuse. Parent involvement may keep troubled teens from negatively impacting their lives by helping them stay away from illegal substances.
To aid in this matter, Northern Middle School in Pennsylvania recently held an event geared toward helping parents identify drugs among toys, York Daily Record reports.
The event consisted of a mock bedroom with toys strewn across the floor with drug paraphernalia sprinkled in. It was the parents' job to find the substances amongst all the clutter. Most adults found 30 to 40 items among the 70 that were planted.
Many skits were presented along with information about gateway drugs such as alcohol and tobacco. Furthermore, information on marijuana, cocaine, prescription drugs and methamphetamines was also discussed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that alcohol is one of the most widely used drug in the world and is associated with approximately 75,000 deaths per year in the U.S.
