Recently, suicide has gained notoriety stemming from adolescents and young adults who took their own lives after being bullied. Since then, many schools and organizations have started programs to raise awareness of the warning signs individuals often exhibit when considering suicide.
However, a teen in Vermont recently took it upon himself to raise awareness of suicide in an effort to help others who may be struggling with depression, WPTZ reports.
Kris Hardy, who is a Colchester High School senior, released a youtube video to help talk about his own struggles with depression and suicidal ideation. His message is one that tells teens that they are not alone in how they feel .
"I just want people to open their eyes and see there are people out there who will help them,” Hardy, told the news source.
Programs for troubled teens can help those who suffer from suicidal ideation or teen depression by offering family therapy.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 4,500 young people between ages 10 and 24 lose their lives to suicide each year.
