New research yields a program designed to help children with autism

By Staff Writer

Researchers from Missouri University are beginning to develop a program to help teachers educate children with autism more effectively, reports Medical Daily.

Researchers told the news source that autistic children have three core deficit areas including difficulty with communication, issues with repetitive behaviors and social competence. Children who experience autism often exhibit traits such as avoiding eye contact, have delayed speech and language skills and get upset by minor changes, They added that social competence has the largest impact on communication and is essential for life after school.

The curriculum will focus on specific needs and behavioral traits in autistic children by using a virtual classroom that will include sharing ideas, taking turns, exploring feeling, problem solving and recognizing facial expressions.

Therapeutic Boarding Schools can help children who suffer from autism by offering individualized therapy and education designed to improve behavior.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 36,500 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder each year. Furthermore, experts estimate that approximately 1 in 110 children are born with the condition every year.
