Iodine deficiencies can cause symptoms in autistic children, study shows

By Staff Writer

Researchers from the Global Healing Center reveal that autism in children is associated with an iodine deficiency, reports Coffetoday.com.

Research suggests that nutritional iodine supplementation could be a positive aid in reducing the symptoms of autism. Experts say that children with autism suffer from language delays and communication challenges and may also display unusual behaviors.

Without a supply of iodine, the human thyroid gland is unable to create two hormones that are essential to fighting toxins and helping to regulate metabolism. Experts say that the underproduction of thyroxin is known to impede neural connections in the brain. Furthermore, without sufficient levels of triiodothronine, the body is unable to cope with increasing exposure to the toxins that are often found in food or the environment.

Boarding schools can help children who suffer from the symptoms of autism by giving them the education and recreational activities to succeed socially and behaviorally.

According to a 2006 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 1 in 110 children are currently diagnosed with autism in the U.S.
